Items Like Custom Knives To Create A 48 Hour Kit To Protect Your Family

By Harriett Crosby

A well thought out 48 hour emergency kit is something every family should have. They should contain things like foods to eat, drinking water. Custom knives for protection and extra cloths work too. An emergencies may happen at any time. It may be something as easy as the electricity going down for a couple days after a tornado or picking up after a hurricane.

These kits are generally a collection of items people could need to survive during an unplanned emergency. It is often best to have all these things put together so they are easily reached within a moments notice. If you end up leaving it is not likely you will have extra time to start searching through your items to pick or choose what it is you will need for the following few days or have an opportunity to get them in local stores.

To survive emergency situations people require three basic items; a small amount of useful supplies, food and water. You should always plan for your supplies to last your family for at least 2 days to be safe. There are often state, federal and local government agencies around to help out people but generally they are slow to get to everyone immediately. They could reach you in only few hours or in many days.

It is also important that you plan your kit without having common conveniences. Often the basic services people take for granite like electricity, gas, phone, water and sewage treatment may not be working. They could be off for several days so your kit should reflect this possibility.

Every kit requires around a gallon of fresh water. Breaking this into smaller bottles is often the best plan. You should also pack some small filters and iodine just in case your water runs out and more water has to be treated and filtered.

Planning the food can be a little harder. Typically granola or oatmeal bars make good high calorie foods. Mixed nuts and fresh honey are items that seldom spoil when stored for long times. Canned tuna or chicken is nice for making quick impromptu meals. Oats, dried beans and jerky are nice for filling out meals. A bag of hard candies, tootsie rolls and pops and gum is good for making snacks.

Some general things you should have are batteries and a flashlight. A hand crank radio. A lighter waterproof matches and candles for extra light. You should have some showering and toiletry items and first aid kit packed. Some more things are duct tape, eating utensils, a can opener and pocket knife.

If you have extra room some optional things you might bring to your 2 day emergency kits are a clean change of clothing, waterproof jackets and your favorite custom knives. You could pack can goods like a soup and meal but only condensed ones. This kit is supposed to be quickly accessible or portable. Always keep them updated by going through them every few months so you will be ready.
