Basic Safety Tips For Gator Hunting

By Daphne Bowen

People can immerse themselves with many hobbies. One of the rare and exotic hobbies that people can get into is gator hunting in Louisiana. This is where alligators are being hunted. The hunting can be very exciting and thrilling, as well as fulfilling whenever you get your prey. You must follow the rules and regulations for this particular hunt though.

The prey is very dangerous. Even if you are the hunter, you have to take into account that the prey might fight back. You might get injured if you are not careful. If you do not want to suffer any fatalities or injuries during the said activity, then here are the safety hints that are worth following during the actual hunt.

First, you must know when it is time to retreat. You should stay within the safe distance from this wild animal, which is normally around 30 feet. If you get too close to the alligator, you might be chased after. Do not assume that alligators are slow on their feet. They are actually quick and agile. They can give chase to attack easily when they think that they are being cornered. Be very careful.

Be wary of this animal when it hisses. Just like any reptile, this animal can hiss whenever it feels that it is in danger. When you hear the alligator hiss, then that is a warning sign to pay attention to already. That means that an individual is getting way too near. One must back away slowly then.

Be more wary of female alligators that are protecting the nests. These are the ones who are more aggressive and they can quickly advance toward you to attack when they feel like their young is going to be in danger. It is imperative to stay away from the female alligators then. Stay away from small alligators as well to avoid getting attacked by their mother.

This wild animal loves to bask itself under the sun, especially when it is not hunting actively. You can easily determine which alligator is basking under the sun by observing the mouth. If this animal is at the banks of streams or ponds with its mouth open wide, then that is an alligator basking under the heat of the sun.

Do not bring a pet with you. Even if the pet is one you always bring with you like a dog or a cat, you should just leave them at home whenever one is hunting for the alligator. Such pets are just the shape and size of a prey alligators go after. If one must bring them, keep them away from the water's edge

Even when an individual is not hunting, you might want to remember some safety tips whenever you encounter these animals. These tips can help you save your life, after all. For example, when fishing, you should just let the said animal take your bait, cut the line, and then move to a new spot. That will save you.

These are just some of the examples of safety tips to take into account when hunting. It would be good to remember these tips to lower the dangers that will come to you. You must stay safe at all times even when you are on the hunt.
