Hunting for an alligator is one of the extreme hobbies some people are into. One cannot just simply decide and become one in an instant. To become a hunter for such animal, you need proper training and the necessary knowledge because this kind of hobby is not like just a walk in the park, research is needed for this.

Now, different state has different laws when it comes to this. Before you decide to go hunting for alligators, know what does your state law covers first. You know how dangerous this kind of hobby is so think carefully if you are really up for it, if you are ready for the challenge brace yourselves through all the possibility that could happen.

A spear and a gig are some of the equipment you may use when you start hunting. The spear is used to dart into the place where the gator is hiding. Then, when it resurfaces from above, use the gig for jabbing. But for those larger ones like 6 feet and above, harpoon is recommended in order to control.

Look out for hidden alligators. To avoid getting hurt in the process, you need to be able to spot which each and every one of it is hiding. They usually hide behind the bushes or under the water. Your senses are needed here in order to spot one because they must already been spotting you.

If a gator spots you first chances are it is already plotting to attack you especially when it senses that you are hunting it. It could just jump out on you and drag you to it, this can be pretty terrifying and may cause death. That is why you extra careful is implemented. Your option when this happen is by fighting it back and shooting it if you have a gun with you.

Another most common weapon used in this is a firearm. Firearms are used because of its capability to kill gators the minute you fire at it. But the outcome would still vary on the skills of the person using it. How can you kill one if the person firing is not good with what he or she does. That is why, if you are going to use a gun, you must be good at handling one.

Tracking where they might be may take up some time. When you have already tracked one, immediately set up a trap in order to catch it. There is a great chance that the gators would go back to that direction, just be patient and wait for it. Your alert level during these times must be high.

Harvesting is the most crucial part as it becomes the most dangerous process. During harvest, the gator could get away or reach you which leads to you in a fatal match with the animal. The key to a successful one is by properly locating and a good restraining line. As method earlier, harpoon is the best choice one can make.

Now in terms of the positioning of the bait, it is recommended that sits about two and a half feet of the water. They say that the higher the bait is going to be the bigger is the alligator you will catch. While you wait, make sure that you are focused and could not easily be distracted because once the gator resurface you have to shot it directly behind the eyes.
