There are many games that are famous in many countries. One of these is golf which has attracted attention from different people. Some people have become well known worldwide due to playing and becoming champions. This has motivated others to start practicing this game so as to become title holders as well. Some play for pleasure while others do so as a source of livelihood. Whatever the reason for playing, there are simple ways in which one can learn how to play a mental game of golf.

Every morning is an opportunity to set the day right. This is done by among many other things eating a nutritiously balanced meal. It should include all the food types needed by the human body and be in a moderate amounts. Keeping oneself well hydrated helps in maintaining balance between the different body systems. One way to do this is to avoid drinks that can dehydrate a person.

Upon arrival at the playing field, the player should familiarize himself with the whole area. Taking a thirty minute walk is advisable as it also helps to stretch the muscles of the body. Stretching exercises are also recommended. Making swinging practices as one would in the real competition would help connect the brain with the upcoming expectations .

Once the competition has commenced, the player should keep a bottle of water close to him. In between shots, he can take sips of the water to replenish the body's reserves. Eating a ripe fruit such as a banana is good. It keeps hunger that would be a distraction at bay. Players should not overeat during the play. This stresses the body's systems and affects performance.

All focus should be on the ball when making a shot. Any distractions such as thinking about previous shots or the performance of others should not be accommodated. Shifting one's thoughts to the upcoming shots is also a distraction and should not be done when making a swing for the ball.

To be a successful golfer, one should have a ritual before and after making a shot. This connects the mind to the task being carried out. With enough practice at this, the mind will begin to relate the ritual to a perfect swing. This will lead to good coordination between the mental center and the peripheral muscles.

Mistakes happen all the time and should not hold back a player from moving on to better performances. Upon making a bad shot, one should learn the mistake he has made and move on. Dwelling on one mistake will only lead to repetition of the same and also more mistakes since the body is not at peace with itself.

To make it in golfing, one needs to practice hard. However, practice alone is not enough. Playing a mental game of golf is needed and can be achieved by following simple methods. Some work better than others. Emphasis should be placed on those that are most effective.
