Keeping Strong In An Obstacle Course

By Robbie Sutter

You're steadily approaching your first obstacle course race and you are ready to take it to those who you are competing against. You have been training for quite some time and you believe that you have a strong upside going into it. That being said, is it possible that there are tips you probably didn't think about before? Prior to getting deep into this type of competition, here are a couple of ways in which you can maintain a substantial amount of strength in the race.

You want to make sure that you are able to progress through an obstacle course race and I cannot recommend steering clear of sprinting enough. You may be able to do so, of course, but you want to keep this as far away from the start of a given race as possible. Sprinting uses up your energy and you want to make sure that it is kept at a substantial rate until the end. This is a step that comes recommended if you have your sights set on events the likes of Spartan Race.

How do you run as far as your hands are concerned? This may come across as a strange tip but keep in mind that if you have your hands clenched, your muscles are going to tighten. When this occurs, you may find that running from one location to the next is made more difficult so keep your hands loose. Do not ball up your hands into fists by any means because you never know if there is another competitor who will make the same mistake you were savvy enough to avoid.

A race of this caliber is going to require determination seen in a number of ways. For example, let's say that your attention is brought more onto the cheers of the crowd than the track itself. Not only is this a surefire way for you to fall behind but you may end up hurting yourself since the environment is not taken into mind as much as it should be. Your focus should remain on the track ahead so that you will be able to benefit from progress.

Maintaining strength within an obstacle course race is going to take some work but not nearly as much as you might think. The steps I've just listed are actually pretty simple when you take a moment to assess all of them. These are the kinds of actions that should be taken up, if you're looking to keep said strength. If you're looking for more methods to take into account, do not forego the idea of further research since it holds much in the way of potential.
